Bobcats Trade Deadline Recap

The Bobcats made one move at the trade deadline, trading Ramon Sessions and Jeff Adrien for Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour. (Unless Gordon's toxic attitude and contract finally get bought out?) Although the trade isn't a blockbuster, it does seem to raise some interesting questions about what the Bobcat's management forecasts for these players.

Contract Details

Ramon Sessions: One remaining year at $5 million
Jeff Adrien: One remaining year at $916k

Gary Neal: Two years remaining at $3.25 million
Luke Ridnour: One remaining year at $4.42 million

The Bobcats absorb a little bit additional salary, but an extra year on Gary Neal's contract isn't too burdensome. Even though Ridnour and Sessions are definitely overpaid, they both are expiring Ks and won't burden next year's cap limits.

On the Court Comparison

Sessions: 24 MPG, 14.8 PER, .509 TS%, .047 WS/48
Adrien: 10 MPG, 14.9 PER, .559 TS%, .169 WS/48

Neal: 20 MPG, 11.5 PER, .500 TS%, -.007 WS/48
Ridnour: 21 MPG, 9.3 PER, .453 TS%, -.002 WS/48

All we can say is that the Bobcats must be counting on Neal to rebound from an off year in Milwaukee. Sessions doesn't help stretch the floor from beyond the arc, and its especially tough for a team with no real shooters from deep. Neal, though, doesn't seem like the answer- his TS% is even lower than Sessions, and certainly doesn't add more elsewhere on the court.

Overall, this trade is forgettable for both sides. The Bucks probably won't keep either player next year as they rebuild, and both Neal and Ridnour have been hurting their team while they've been on the court this year according to WS/48. Hopefully Neal can get some of that Spurs-era mojo back and pick up the shooting stroke.
